Formal, informal, modern or vintage; these are all styles to be considered when purchasing your coffee table. If you favor a contemporary look, choose a sleek metal table with a glass top. If country casual is more your speed, a rustic oak table would be perfect. Pick a round table with wood turned legs for a romantic feel. There are many styles to choose from, just use the decorating scheme of the room as your guide.
Whenever I see a flat surface in my home, I feel like it’s begging to be decorated! And the coffee table is one of my favorite places to play and experiment with various decor items and colors. When seated in a living space, the coffee table becomes a focal point and there’s noting like a beautiful vignette to help set the tone of the room.
Using a vintage object for a coffee table adds a bit of history — a story — to a room, and is one of my favorite things to do. Make sure the piece is stable and all the connections are secure. If you need to refinish the piece, ask the vendor precisely what it’s made from, as this will help in the refinishing process.
Generally, furniture of the classic traditional or French provincial style will come in standard sizes. You may find some ornate pieces that vary in length and width. A coffee table of the same decor will create order and cohesiveness. But you can use this addition in creative ways too.
